Shear Madness Single Fabric Challenge entry: the Butterick 4790 walkaway dress.

  1. Laura of Shear Madness called on the masses to create a costume using Michael Miller Blue & White Bird On The Vine Azure Fabric. I was inspired by the style of Butterick 4790 because it was a perfect way to display the challenge fabric in its glory. I had a little help from a great walkaway dress tutorial by Edelweiss Patterns.
  1. The petticoat was a bit of a challenge. I sacrificed a Malco Modes 178 for this petticoat. Edelweiss has a tutorial on how to make a petticoat for this dress. It needed to be flat in the front, and full in the back. Call it the mullet of petticoats.
  1. The back armhole was reshaped to fill in and straighten out the underarm curve (tapering that to CF), extend the shoulder out 1/2", shorten each shoulder strap by 1 1/2", and shorten the circle skirt to 25".
  1. All in all, I am satisfied with this dress, and feel so pretty in it. Thank you Edelweiss Patterns and Shear Madness!
